Good Summer Fishing

Those putting in the effort are being rewarded with some good summer fishing.  The higher then normal water levels provide for greater amounts of shoreline cover and puts some things under water that are normally not.  Smallmouth and largemouth bass are active because of this.  I’ve also talked with a couple of anglers who have caught walleyes in the early mornings or late afternoon with a jig and leech.  Transitions to deep water and availability of food are keys.  Clam beds and springs are good locations of you know of any.  I always mark my map where I hook a clam.  Catfish and northern pike are also available to those interested.  Water temperatures have dropped back to 67 from a high of 83 last week.  That too should increase fish activity a bit.
