From what I’ve been hearing, anglers have been experiencing mixed results. Some anglers are finding good luck, others are catching just a few fish. The weather, thickening ice and large numbers of anglers all play a part. Fishing away from the crowds is a good idea, but not if it takes you away from the structure that the fish are using. Lengthening days and a bit of extra flow should be drawing some of the walleye off the lake and in to the river. Pan fish have been active quite often, but again, can be hit and miss. The back waters and small local lakes have been the most productive targets. Winnebago continues to give up some white bass, perch and walleye with generally very good access. Lake Poygan also has good ice and numerous roads. Still cracks and heaves are forming,or have formed, making caution an important part of any travel on the lakes.
