Walleye, Smallmouth & Catfish Biting

Add a few crappie to the list and you’ve got the breakdown on what’s been biting.  Early morings are best for walleye but if the boat pressure is light, they can bite all day.  Deep wood and sandy transitions to deep water are best.  I love the new Berkley Gulp Alive Leeches on a Lindy Timnbr Rock jig for this type of fishing.  A medium action rod and some non-stretch line do best.  Once hooked keep steady pressure to bring the fish through the submerged trees and to the surface.  Crappie have been showing up along some shorelines and docks but we are going to need some rain to keep water levels to the point that they stay around in good numbers.  Catfish action has been good and the smallmouth bass action has been steady with good days and bad days typical due to weather.

Lake Poygan remains very good for the most part and there are some northern pike to be caught too.  It’s great “fishing boat” territory right now in New London.  What some fishing and floating fun?  The upper areas of the Embarrass and Wolf River are great for a canoe or kayak trip and the smallmouth bass and walleye fishing can be very good.  Contact me for more info if you’d like.
