Although not as thick as before in the New London area, anglers finding the returning schools or the few still spawning fish, are having great action. Reports from New London AND Fremont have some anglers catching between 100 – 200 fish in a days fishing. For one friend, that was 5 hours. There have been a few walleye being caught in the river but no reports of hot fishing. Evenings have been best with most being caught on a jig and crawler or small crank bait pitched near shallow cover. Catfish have been the most talked about bite with good numbers of channel cats and a few flatheads being caught.
In the Winneconne area white bass numbers have been good and anglers are catching some walleye pulling flies in the bridge area early in the morning. The trolling bite is starting to pick up on lakes Poygan and Winneconne and some anglers are picking up walleye by pitching or casting to shallow structure, rocks and weeds. Bluegill are also staring to show signs of activity in the shallows on the river and on area lakes.
