Although the snow cover has created a few spots of thin ice, snowmobilers are all over the river as are the ice fishermen. The snowmobile trails are open and we should be seeing some additional snow which should improve conditions there also. As far as the fishing, there have been some walleye being caught but bluegill had been the main story. As with any fishing it can be hit or miss, but generally fishing has been OK.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN NOT TAKE MINNOWS AWAY FROM THE LAKE. ANY YOU DON’T USE MUST BE DUMPED ON SHORE. I’ll post the DNR’s emergency rule on this later today. It is part of an effort to limit or control the spread of VHS, a fish virus now in the Winnebago system.
Have fun, be safe, stay warm and catch some fish.
